Abietic acid belongs to the abietane diterpene group of organic compounds derived from four isoprene units. Potent testosterone 5α-reductase inhibitory activity in vitro is performed by abietic acid. It is prepared from rosin by acid sodium salt with the subsequent formation and recrystallization of the diamylamine salt.It is also known as Abietinic acid and Sylvic acid.
