2019-Official year for Mendeleev’s PERIODIC TABLE

If we talk about the familiarities and favorites for the people who study science, we talk for these people

  • Darwin for the Biologists
  • Newton for the Physicists
  • Alexander Fleming for the microbiologists
  • DmitriiIvanovich Mendeleev for the CHEMISTS

When a chemist remembers their yesteryears since the chemistry students start learning the real essence of chemistry, the first thing which comes into our minds is "PERIODIC TABLE".

To a layman, a periodic table may appear to be a table of 100 or so squares containing symbols and numbers. But, for a chemist, it summarizes the whole chemistry into it.

It enumerates the elements that compose all earthly substances, arranged so as to reveal patterns in their properties, guiding the pursuit of chemical research both in theory and in practice.

Mendeleev was a professor of inorganic chemistry and was not satisfied with the existing textbooks and decided to write his own. In order to best arrange the text, he decided to arrange the elements first. While doing so he found that some groups of similar elements showed a regular increase in atomic weights; other elements with roughly equal atomic weights shared common properties. It appeared that ordering the elements by their atomic weight was the key to categorizing them.

In the year 1869, Russian chemist DmitriiIvanovich Mendeleev tabulated and organized 63 known elements in a vertical chart by atomic weight. This arrangement placed elements with similar properties into horizontal rows.

Every field of science has its favorite anniversary, and 2019 is the year of Chemists and Chemistry

No cause for celebration surpasses the origin of the periodic table of the elements, created 150 years ago this March by the Russian chemist DmitriiIvanovich Mendeleev.

A periodic Table is a unique tool, enabling scientist to predict the appearance and properties of matter on the Earth and in the rest of the Universe.

2019 will be the 150th anniversary since Dmitry Mendeleev discovered the Periodic System and has been proclaimed the "International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements"(IYPT2019)by UNESCO.
